Martin's Pretty Piper

I realize that it may seem like I'm obsessed with this dog, but I have to be!  If I'm not on guard every second of every minute that she's not in her crate, the damage could be dreadful!  She chews, hides and shreds almost anything she can carry.  And the little peanut has no bladder control.  She cries or rings her bell to go outside and then pees before I can get to the door.  We're making progress, but it's slow :)

Piper's youth and energy has made me appreciate what a sweetheart my old Keely girl is.  I admire her patience and admiration for the little things...like digging for moles, lounging in a mud bath, sunshine and the wind in her face.  She's been a good dog and I hope that she doesn't think of Piper as punishment!

I've been very impressed with her teaching ability.  She's the leader of the two, every morning, as they scout the yard for any changes from the night before.  They do their business and wait eagerly for the kids and I to escort them down the driveway to wait on the bus.  Keely growls and barks if Piper acts out (jumping on the couch or stealing a stuffed animal or baby doll from Adri).  On the other hand, Keely's not such a good influence when it comes to yard etiquette.   I blame Keely for Piper's new found love for digging :)  Keely digs for the excitement of the hunt...Piper digs for snacks (she's eaten and thrown up more mice than I can count).

Nate's first training session with Piper was last Friday.  He did AWESOME!  Piper now responds to him better than any of the rest of us and she has mastered 'sit' and is making great progress on 'come'.  I'm anxious to see how things progress.  He works with her every morning before school and a few times each evening.  More than anything, I'm glad that he's interested in doing something that isn't electronic!

Yes, we're crazy!  I had this naive idea that having a puppy wouldn't be that disruptive to our normal routine and most certainly, we'd have the 'puppy' phase under our belt before Baby #4 came.  Lord, help me!
