My Fathers Day Observations

I feel a little bad...Fathers Day started off with me sleeping until 8:30 and Matt getting up with the kids at 7! I didn't hear them, so he must have popped up at their first footsteps...thanks Matt! He also refused my offer of homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast (if you know him at all, you know about his LOVE for cinnamon rolls), but no worries because I'm going to make them for him tomorrow instead (it's his birthday). Instead, he made the kids waffles! These happenings don't surprise me, though, because he's always willing to serve our family unselfishly, even if it was a good day to take advantage of a wife who wanted to pamper him!

Matt is certainly a different kind of father than he was 9 years ago when Nate was our only child. He's more mature, experienced and patient than he was back then. He is the LEADER of our home and is such a good example for our children. I read recently that our kids become what you model for them, not what you tell them. I hope that's true because they sure don't listen to much we tell them!

I noticed with much clarity, the admiration that Adrianna has for her Daddy, yesterday. After getting dressed for church and putting on her clothes, she ran into the room where he was and started dancing and twirling all around for him. She said, "Look at me!" His response was, "You look great!" I then took special note of the his next steps. A few minutes later, he sat down with her on the couch and hugged her. He gave her several compliments that had nothing to do with her outside appearance. I don't know if he noticed what he was doing or not, but I did! I'm thankful that he helps remind our daughter of her inside beauty.

At church, Matt made a resolution to his family that he would, in summary, take full responsibility for his wife, children and family. What a great thing for our kids to witness! I was a bit teary eyed, as I thanked God for this amazing leader in my life!

I let the kids pick out a few gifts for their Papaw John and Gabe picked a bumper sticker (because Papaw likes to put stickers on his car), spider repellent (because he always finds spiders in their bathroom) and a shirt. There was nothing like the smile on my Dad's face when he opened those gifts...pure joy! Gabe later said, "I think Papaw liked his presents, but why did Papaw get presents on Fathers Day?" Funny how he didn't think of asking that before we passed out gifts or had cake and ice cream!

We missed Matt's Dad yesterday because he was out of town. So, Happy Father's Day, Papaw David! Thank you for being a wonderful role model for your children and for teaching Matt all of the virtues that you find important.

Back on schedule today..."Mommy Summer School," followed up by lunch outside and then a trip to the library for the summer reading kickoff to meet Ronald McDonald! Happy Monday!
