It's not the amount of work that falls on me when he's away, because lets face it...he doesn't do that much around here anyway (but that's okay...he works hard at his 'other' job). The hardest part for me is that lack of interaction with another person that doesn't include topics like the importance of taking turns, why we should wash our hands after we go to the bathroom and cover our mouths with our elbow when we cough, or why it IS fair that 7 year olds have homework.
And the roughest part of all...sleeping alone! Although, I did recruit my boys to keep me company after dark. They willingly made their pallets on each side of the bed, eager to offer protection against the noises that I imagine hearing when I'm home alone at night. The pallets have remained there all week, too. Gabe informed me that it would be a waste of time to clean them up every morning, because we'd just end up making them again. I am proud to announce that my sweetheart will be home tomorrow :) Gabe will be sad tomorrow when it's time to clean up the blankets...at least until the next trip!
Nate performed in his school's spring musical on Tuesday. As usual, he did an amazing job and never showed one bit of stage fright. He's such a ham! He asked me on the way home yesterday why his voice was hoarse. I told him it was because he sang so loud, because he was getting sick, or because his voice was changing. "Why does that happen?" he asked. I explained, "When boys grow up, their voices change and get deeper." "When will Daddy's voice change?" he added. They really have no idea how funny they are!

Just before leaving for the school, Nate posed for a pre-performance picture (have I mentioned that this kid is a ham)

Tough to spot him amongst the 80+ second graders, but he's there. If you ask me, he stood out among the rest...never faltered on his words or smile :)
The Pendleton Library has probably been one of the things that has kept me out of a mental institution during my past 7 years as a stay at home mom. They have weekly activities, story time twice a month, and lots of other extra stuff to do. If we need to get out of the house...the library is usually where we visit. All three kids love it and when I announce that a trip to the library is on the agenda, they're all eager to go...even Adrianna. She's quickly developed a love for the activities that Miss Peggy coordinates and loves to choose her own books. Usually, when we participate in a story time or craft, she sits quietly on my lap (waiting for the snack) or busies herself with puzzles or board books. This week, the story was about a kite, which she listened to, intently. The craft to follow, was making a kite. Adrianna carefully glued every piece of tissue paper to her handmade kite and admittedly, the only thing I assisted her with was pushing up the glue stick! What a milestone (I'm corny, I know)! She then followed the group out to take her kite on its first flight! My baby girl is growing up {sniff}.
