This time change...not a fan!!!

I was a little excited last night when I went to bed at 11 and knew it was time change night! I was looking forward to an extra hour of sleep. Just to ensure this, we let the kids stay up WAY past their usual weekend bedtime. Matt, who is wrapping up a bad cold, still has a lingering cough. Saying that he coughed ALL NIGHT long aren't strong enough words! Apparently, he slept great, but Adrianna and I were restless! Every time he'd have a coughing spell and I'd hear her wrestling in her bed, I assured myself that we were going to get some extra rest in the morning because of the time change...I WAS WRONG! She was up at 6am! I'm a terrible mother...I left her in bed, slightly crying, until 7. Believe it or not, we still had trouble getting to church at 10:30!

Gabe had a very exciting weekend...it was his first basketball game. He's been asking to play basketball since Nate played, two years ago. So, I think we could honestly say, yesterday was a 'dream come true' for the little guy!

This is just one of the MANY shots that Nate took during the game. He kind of reminded me of a younger Bobby Knight. I couldn't help but giggle at him. He started the game, sitting quietly in the bleachers, not really paying much attention. By the 2nd quarter, he had worked his way down a bit closer to the floor and was yelling things like, "GET THE REBOUND GABE!" and "HUSTLE HUSTLE!" By the end of the 4th quarter, he was basically sitting behind the teams on the bleachers, shaking his fists and yelling things that I couldn't understand! I think he'll be a good supporter of his brother's athletic involvement...that is, of course, because he chooses not to play sports! Later in the day, I heard him tell Gabe, "Your team smoked the red team. I know they don't keep score, but I was and you guys nailed 'em!"

He was excited that Mamaw Mary and Papaw John came to see his first game and asked if I would invite all of his other 'fwiends and famwee." Below is his game schedule. All games are at Pendleton Elementary.

11/13 9am
11/20 9am
11/27 9am
12/4 9am
12/11 8am (yes, I know...too early for a Saturday)
12/18 8am

My niece honored me by asking if I would make the cake for her baby shower this weekend. I do love baking and really enjoy making cakes for my children's birthday's so I obliged her...so glad I did! I had a fun time putting it together. Congratulations Ashley and Jeff...can't wait to meet Sophia Blair!

More and more of Adrianna's personality seems to become apparent...like being strong willed and independent! I really had no idea that I could have a child more strong willed than Gabe! Although he surprises me daily...like finding out he's a model child at school (all the time) and I have to ask him 20 times in the morning before he'll brush his teeth! Last night I asked him to put his shoes in his closet after taking them off in the bathroom just before getting in the bath. He said, "Can I put dem here?" He pointed the linen closet in the bathroom. "Nope. They go in your closet." "OK Mom. I will put dem in my woom, but don't wook. Cwose you eyes." I did...but peeked a little. I opened them quickly when I saw him putting them in the linen closet under the dirty clothes! The little booger was too rotten to take them to his room! No doubt, if I didn't see that, I'd be to blame when he couldn't find them the next morning! But...back to Adrianna. She insists on picking her hair bow every morning (I'm so excited that she actually needs something in her hair now to keep it out of her face) and she'd even prefer to put it in herself!

These are some of her favorite things to say...

~ Homey (hold me)
~ NOOOOOOOOO (in really sweet, high pitched voice)
~ GUB (Gabe)
~ No Key (she says this to Keely when she's trying to take food out of her hands)
~ WOOOOWWWWW (she's obviously heard me say this lots of times when we pull up to the new house...she says that every time now, too)
~ Duce (Juice...but she uses that word to ask for any drink)
~ Muh (More...she says this while signing her variation for the word more)
~ Duh (Done)
~ Nayyyyy (Nate...but she always has to scream it)
~ He uh (Here...she says this when she's done with something and she wants you to take it)
~ Pees
~ sank uh (Thank you...she says this while rubbing her chin in a little circle...her variation of the sign for thank you)
~ I uh ooo (I love you)
~ OWWWWWW (when you change her diaper)

My friend Kim gave us some winter things to borrow and this cute little hat was amongst the winter clothes. Adri LOVES it! She prefers to wear it most of the time!

Nate continues to push buttons, as usual, at home and at school. The other day, he was sent home with a note saying that he 'pretended' to pee on someone in the bathroom! Seriously? What does this kid turn into when he walks through those school doors? I know his teacher and principal probably don't believe me when I tell them that he would NEVER do something like that at home. We continue to work through those issues! I just continue to think about what my mom said when her and I would bicker when I was a teenager..."You'll get your payback." She was right...I am...and now I'm saying it to him! He earned a timeout this weekend for talking back to me and before moving here, his timeout was in his room. That won't work anymore because every toy the kids own are in their room. Timeout would turn into playtime if I sent him in there! Our new timeout spot is on a chair in the kitchen. Nate insists on turning his chair towards the microwave so that he can watch the timer (he gets that from me). Adrianna doesn't like it when he's in timeout and usually tries pulling on his sleeve or picking the chair up from underneath him. This particular time, instead of her usual, she pulled a chair over to him and sat down!

We've been renting an old home from Matt's Mom and Dad until our new house is complete...we love it! It's roomy, all the kids have their own bedroom, there is a huge playroom for the kiddos and I don't have to step on toys in the middle of the night when I go to the bathroom, there is a huge basement for storage...but...it's a little drafty. It's nothing that a sweatshirt and some cozy socks won't cure, but Matt found something that will work just as well. I had to capture this! The funny thing about this, besides the fact that he's wearing a hat in the house, is that my dad wears these hats all of the time and I always laugh about how silly they look on him. Look what you get for making fun of someone...a husband that does the same thing!

I really enjoy journaling and reminiscing things about my time with my family. I wasn't having a particularly 'good' day, until sitting down to type this. For some reason, getting down my thoughts and knowing that I'm creating something that my kids and I will be able to look back on someday, makes me happy. Thank you for reading and encouraging me to keep doing it. I guess I need to add a #11 to my "Top 10 things that make me happy" list!

Have a great week, everyone!
