...ROUND YOUNG VIRGIN...
I overheard Nate singing yesterday. "Silent night. Holy night. All is calm. All is bright. Round young virgin," As he was singing, he was also signing the words, which he learned at church. "What is that song about, Nate?" I asked. "You don't know?" he said. "I know what it means, but I want to know what you think it means?" I really enjoy asking the kids questions like this to see if they remember what we've talked about, especially concerning Christmas. The Christmas story is a lot for a kid to comprehend. Heck, it's a lot for me to comprehend! He said, "Jesus was born to a virgin. That means she never had a baby before and the song says round because that's the shape her belly was!" Honestly, I was a little glad that he didn't actually tell me what virgin meant. He's still a little too young for that. "It's yon virgin," I added. He then finished with, "How can you know what the song means if you don't know the words!" I do love my kids, so much, and I should find a way to put an end to the sarcasm. But, how can I, when they say the cutest things?
