Hurry! Call 911!

I was doing a little school time with the kids this morning and we were talking about the number 100. Gabe informed me that 1-0-0 are the numbers you dial when you need a firetruck, policeman, or ambulance. I corrected him and let him know that it's actually 9-1-1 that you call when there is an emergency.

"That doesn't make any sense. When you need help, you must be 100% sure that calling an ambulance is the right thing to do."

I laughed a little. He was correct. I do tell them when we discuss what to do in an emergency, that there must be no doubt in their mind that calling 9-1-1 is necessary. "Yes, you must be 100% sure that calling an ambulance or firetruck is the right thing to do, but the number that you dial to get those rescuers is 9-1-1."

"How will I remember that?"

"Remember how we wrote down all of our important information and the numbers of other people we may need to call in case of an emergency on an index card and put it by the phone in Mommy and Daddy's room." I walked him to my nightstand and showed him the florescent orange card.

"I'm still confused. There's a lot of numbers and words on this card and I can't read yet."

Does this kid ever listen when I talk?

I explained that the telephone numbers were most important and since he did know his numbers, he would be able to get help if we needed it in an emergency.

As we were walking back out into the living room, he said, "So if I dail 9-1-1 cuz of an emergency, will I have to explain to the policeman what 100% means because I don't really know?"

I love that kid!

He spent the night with my Mom and Dad last weekend and after he left, I heard Keely crying in the hallway. I didn't think about the fact that she may be sad that her favorite buddy was gone. A few minutes later, I heard her crying again, but from farther away. I found her in Gabe's room on his bed. When I found her, she wouldn't even look at me!

A few nights later, I was feeling guilty that she would really miss us when we were away, so she got to ride with us to the store and to return some movies. She thinks she's one of the kids!

Gabe started playing basketball a few weeks ago and he really likes it. He likes it most because he gets to see his friends Harrison and Shelton, but also because there are snacks afterwards. He plays pretty well and only stops a few times per game to ask when its time to eat!

My sweet 5 year old is number 5. He's got a big advantage...he's the tallest one!

I copied this idea off of Pinterest this week. It was a HUGE hit! I don't think we had the TV on for 2 days straight! Of course, every car, tractor, monster truck and dump truck we owned was spread across the floor at some point, but we had a good time anyway!

The best thing I've done this winter, is by far, bringing in our picnic table for the kids. It is such a reward to have a snack or hot chocolate while sitting at that table and watching a show.

FYI - since my recent attraction to the Pioneer Woman, we've been trying lots of new recipes. Flat Apple Pie is by far our favorite. In fact, Nate will even eat it...and he won't eat apples!

Wish me luck! I get to be in charge of the activity at Scouts tonight! I'm praying for patience and motivation!
